Velma Mercedes Beatty, 94, passed quietly from this life on Saturday, October 2, 2021 in her residence in Middletown. Born in Melcroft, PA, the daughter of Stuart F. and Bessie P. (Arison) Miller, she lived in Steelton for many years before moving to Middletown in 2007. Velma was employed as a secretary by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Harrisburg, for 5 years before retiring many years ago.
She was a member of Steelton Moose Lodge #382, Lawton Legion Post #998 Ladies Auxiliary and St Mary’s 50 Plus Club, Steelton. Velma loved crossword puzzles, playing board games and card games and bingo at the Royalton Senior Center.
Velma was preceded in death by brothers, Earl Miller, James C. Miller, Robert A. Miller and Stewart F. Miller Jr. Survivors include her children, Jeffrey A. Beatty of Hershey, Barbara J. Shrawder and Steven G. Beatty both of Middletown; sisters, La Verne Nimmo of MD and Elaine La Mar of Harrisburg. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jay Beatty, Adam Beatty, Brian Beatty and 8 great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated in Hall & Stone Funeral Home, 112 N. Harrisburg Street, Steelton, on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 11AM with the Rev. Rose Tolkin officiating.
Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 10 to 11AM Thursday. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Homeland at Home Hospice, 2300 Vartan Way, Suite 270, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
