David L. “Buddy” Burger, Sr., age 84, of New Cumberland, died on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, with family by his side. He was born on March 23, 1938, in Dauphin County, PA, to the late Andrew H. and Dorothy E. (Calvert) Burger. He grew up on the West Side of of Steelton, PA.
Buddy graduated from Steelton High School, and attended Penn State York, obtaining a degree in Industrial Engineering. His long-term career stints included C.H. Masland & Sons, Shaffer Trucking, H.C. Gabler, and W.H. Johns, wearing a variety of managerial hats in the areas of Risk/Safety, Insurance, Fleet Management, and Operations. He proudly served in the Army Reserves. He was a member of the PMTA, was a Cub Scout leader in his younger days, and enjoyed being part of local ski, dance, and motorcycle clubs. He was a lifetime member of both Steelton’s Fifth Ward Republican Club and West Side Hose Company, following in his father’s footsteps.
He was a member of Saint Theresa of the Infant Jesus Parish in New Cumberland, PA, and attended their weekly Scripture Study, as well as being a member of the Perpetual Adoration Council. Buddy was very passionate about his love of our country, and proudly showed support for our military and police forces.
Buddy is survived by a brother Andrew ‘Charlie’ (wife Kathy) Burger of Camp Hill, and a sister Patricia (husband Charlie) Gergel of Naples, Florida; his children David L. (wife Debra) Burger, Jr. of Boiling Springs, Christine M. (husband Allen) Brown of Mohnton, PA, Douglas A. of New Cumberland, and Marina L. (husband Mark) Walters of Plainfield; his four grandchildren Matthew A. (wife Heather) Burger, Eric D. Burger, Garret A. Brown, and Rebecca M. Brown; and one great-grandchild, Cameron John Burger.
A private viewing will be held at Hall and Stone Funeral Home, located in Steelton, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Saint Theresa of the Infant Jesus Parish, 1300 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA, with the Reverend Kyle Sahd as celebrant. Internment will be at Hillsdale Cemetery in Middletown, PA.
