John J. Shannon Sr., 85, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 in UPMC Harrisburg Hospital.  Born in Grantville, the son of John Jacob and Carolyn (Freet) Shannon, he had lived there before moving to Enhaut in 1965.

            John had been employed by the Bethlehem Steel Co., Steelton Plant as a crane operator for 35 years, until his retirement in the early 1990’s.  He served in the U S Army in the mid 1950’s until the early 1960’s.  John loved working with wood, building many items for the home and also enjoyed carpentry work.

            He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Nancy L. (Smith) Shannon; a grandson, Dustin Lee Shannon; a brother, James Shannon and a sister, Kathleen Atticks.  Survivors include his sons, John J. Shannon Jr. of Shermans Dale, Gary L. Shannon of Mechanicsburg, Daniel J. Shannon of Duncannon and Mark W.  Shannon of Lewisberry;  grandchildren, Dylan James Shannon and his wife Leigh, Megan Elizabeth Wiles, Malia J. Shannon and Malani G. Shannon.  Also surviving are 5 great grandchildren.

            A Funeral Service will be celebrated in Hall & Stone Funeral Home, 112 N. Harrisburg Street, Steelton, on Friday, December 17, at 11AM with the Rev. Joseph Catani officiating.  Interment will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra, with full military honors.  Visitation is Friday, 10 to 11AM.
